Thimphu is a bustling town on the banks of the Thimphu Chhu and set gloriously in the hills of the Thimphu valley. It is home to the Bhutanese Royal Family, the Royal Government and to several foreign missions and development projects. Bhutan’s only golf course, a nine-hole circuit, is situated next to the magnificent Tashichhoedzong.

The ‘Fortress of the glorious religion’ houses the throne room of His Majesty the King, the main secretariat building and the central monk body. Its courtyard is open to visitors during the Thimphu Tshechu and when the monk body moves to its winter residence in Punakha.

The Folk Heritage Museum or Phelchey Toenkhyim is a museum in Thimphu, Thimphu District, Bhutan.The museum is housed in a 3-story 19th century traditional rammed mud and timber house aged more than 150 years.
NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR ZORIG CHUSUM
This institute was created by the government to promote Bhutan’s traditional contemporary art forms. The word “Zorig Chusum” literally means “Thirteen Crafts.” The thirteen Bhutan art forms are: Traditional Painting, Sculpturing, Wood Carving, Calligraphy, Paper making, Bronze Casting, Embroidery, Weaving, Carpentry, Masonry, Bamboo and cane weaving, Gold/Silver Smithy, Black smithy.
